About 2020 Kickoff House Parties
Between 2/2-2/16, Swing Left volunteers across the country will come together to work on the next election. Swing Left is asking volunteers like you to host a house party for their community and network.
We had a big impact in 2018 because we started organizing early, and spent nearly two years doing the work. Our goals are a little different this time around—we can work simultaneously on winning the White House, the Senate, the House, and the state races needed to end Republican gerrymandering.
Sign up to host your 2020 kick off house party with Swing Left Boston! We will help create your Action Network event, and provide publicity and support. All you need is a computer, laptop, smart TV with an internet connection.
Some of the strategies we use will be different in 2019-2020. For example, we know that in a presidential election year, voters are more likely to turnout on Election Day—so the best way to make an impact is to increase the number of people who can vote. We can do that by registering massive numbers of voters in strategic areas across the country.
Remember, it does not have to be a house—or your house! It can be the basement of your house of worship, a quiet cafe—anywhere you can connect a device (computer, tablet, laptop) with an internet connection (wifi or cell phone hot spot), and gather some folks together.

Looking for someplace larger than your living room? Many public libraries let you use their common rooms or meeting rooms, if the event is free and open to the public. Please see our Greater Boston event venue guide for more information. We also have some options at the end of this list.

As of 1/14/2018, the following locations were available:
- Brookline Public Library, Putterham Branch, 2/2 after 12 or 1 pm (depending on how long morning group needs for setup). Capacity 90, AV projection, kitchenette, $90 if you are not a nonprofit. Unfortunately Coolidge Corner and main branch are already booked.
- Somerville Public Library conference room, no AV, seats 10, but could gather around a laptop. Appears to be available 2/2 and 2/3 afternoon.
- Watertown Public Library, Watertown Savings Bank room (up to 200, AV). Appears to be available, after 1:15 pm on 2/2. Prefer Watertown groups, but not required. Do we have any connections with Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice and the Environment?
- Nelson Mandela room at Democracy Center (Cambridge, MA) is available on 2/3 before 2:30 pm, pull down screen, 10-60 people, $50-75. I have not rented there, just attended events, so I am not sure how they work AV equipment i.e., if they have some available.
- Appears Arlington, Concord, Lexington, and Newburport Public Library is just for non-profits or town committees. If you can find a nonprofit to connect with, those might be options.
- Lincoln Public Library might be an option for folks north of Boston. It appears to be available to renters who are not non-profits.
- First Parish in Arlington is $125, less if a member of the congregation rents there
