As a Swing Blue Alliance intern, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Democratic Party of Ohio, and my experience has been incredibly rewarding and impactful. […] Working alongside a dedicated and well-organized team of individuals made the experience seamless and incredibly inspiring.
Jasmine, Winter 2023 Intern
Youth are the future of the Democratic party, and Swing Blue Alliance is proud to offer internships that expose high school and college students to the life of an organizer. We also rely on interns to help us with content creation and outreach that appeals to all ages.
The Swing Blue Alliance Internship Program is a 10-week (minimum) internship for highly motivated individuals to help Swing Blue fulfill its mission. Our internship requires a commitment of at least 10 hours a week.
For Fall 2023, we have the following internship opportunities available:
The Swing Blue research team works to understand results, test out new ideas, and evaluate past campaigns for learnings and best practices. The Research Intern will write case studies on the results of Swing Blue Alliance studies. The intern may also write summaries of external studies for the Swing Blue Alliance research repository.
In 2023, Swing Blue Alliance has raised money for a wide variety of candidates and causes, including:
- Pro-democracy ads in local Ohio newspapers
- Donna Deegan’s historic victory as the first female mayor of Jacksonville
- Rural Indivisible groups in Georgia
As the finance/fundraising intern, you will develop grassroots fundraising campaigns, creating the words and images that inspire people to give, as well as track information about Swing Blue Alliance donors
Phone Bank Intern
Join a fun team of phone bank organizers and captains. Learn how to run phone banks like a pro and try your hand at making calls yourself. Learn how to “get your foot in the door” and connect with voters to get out the vote on critical campaigns.
Social Media Intern
Create social media content, particularly for the Swing Blue Alliance TikTok account. Learn how social media can inspire young voters to participate in grassroots organizing and to get excited about voting. Develop and publish posts and videos that encourage action, encourage voter turnout, provide important election information, or that just make people laugh.
Is writing your bag? Work with Swing Blue Alliance volunteers to write compelling posts for our website. Some past blog posts created by our summer 2021 interns include a discussion of the Latino Vote 2020, best practices for postcard campaigns, and a qualitative evaluation of SBA’s S1 postcard campaigns.
As an all-volunteer organization, Swing Blue Alliance offers unpaid positions in a great learning environment that includes mentorship, expense reimbursement, and opportunities to meet like-minded colleagues.
This internship is remote. For interested interns, there are opportunities to attend in-person events.
- Majoring in the social sciences, data science, or a related field.
- Be willing to commit 5-40 hours per week (really! We are flexible).
- Have good organizational skills and a commitment to detail.
- Have good communication skills.
