Why Arizona?
Arizona is a key battleground state with several crucial races that could have a significant impact on the outcome of the Presidential race and the control of both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. The state’s 11 electoral votes are highly sought after, and the outcome of the races in Arizona could determine the overall result of the election.
Arizona is also key to gaining full control of Congress. Senator Kyrsten Sinema, former Democrat turned Independent, is not seeking re-election, so now is our chance to retake her Senate seat and there are two flippable congressional seats for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona: AZ-01 and AZ-06.
The state’s legislature is also very close to flipping control from the GOP to the Democrats, which would have major implications for the state’s political landscape, how they run elections, and decisions around crucial issues like reproductive rights, public school funding, gun safety laws and voting rights in a state. The State Senate and State Legislature are each within two seats of control.
Finally, a critical, divisive issue is on the ballot in Arizona: Abortion. This issue has proved to turn out voters as it is a top issue for 1 in 8 US voters, according to a KFF survey.
With headquarters in Massachusetts, Swing Blue Alliance is new to Arizona as it’s usually a focus for many activists on the west coast. But with so many groups focused on California taking back 6 key congressional seats this year, we’re stepping up to build the partnerships needed to support Democrats in the state.
How can you get involved?
1. Travel to register voters
Swing Blue Alliance will be hosting more trips to Arizona to register voters. Voter registration is critical because many unregistered people, if they were to vote, would vote Democratic.

2. Donate to the States Project through the Swing Blue Arizona Alliance Giving Circle
Swing Blue Alliance is partnering with The States Project in 2024 to help Arizona take back control of its state legislature. The States Project will leverage our financial contributions to make sure that campaigns follow evidence-based best practices to increase Democratic votes.

What are the results so far?
Swing Blue Alliance volunteers worked with Working America in January to start planning several trips to Phoenix and Tucson. Our first trip was in Phoenix, Arizona in March. Swing Blue Alliance volunteers traveled to the state to build relationships with the Maricopa County Dems and the Democratic leadership in legislative districts AZ-15, AZ-17, and AZ-27. Volunteers then attended the Rainbow Festival, where tens of thousands gather to promote unity, visibility, and self-esteem for LGBTQ+ people in Arizona.
Following the festival, volunteers worked with the Maricopa County Democratic Party to try out a pilot program to do door-to-door voter registration in LD-27, which is a swing state legislative district. The team used a completely new voter registration tool called “Unregistered Addresses.” These are homes in heavily Democratic areas where there is no one registered.
