Let’s Be Clear About Virginia

Keep Virginia Blue

“Virginias state elections in 2023 could have national implications in November 2024”

USA Today

“Virginia is the state to watch in the 2023 elections”

US News and World Report

“Virginia’s off-off-year election is next big test for reproductive rights”

The Guardian

SBA is going all out for Virginia. We’ve already sent 65,000 postcards. Now, with 17 days to go, help keep VA blue with any of the following opportunities to make calls and canvass:

Get Over It … Make Calls to VA

Virginia phone banks

Many SBA volunteers hate the phone but still join our phone banks because they understand the importance of talking to voters one on one. As Lakshmi Mudunuri says, “The choice between distaste of phone banking and helping preserve democracy is a no-brainer."

Dems lose in Virginia because more Republicans than Dems actually vote. Phone calls are a very effective way to get out the vote. Were dialing into SD-17 -- thats where House Member Clint Jenkins is running for the Senate. Our GOTV calls will also help House candidates whose districts overlap with Clints.

Dedicated and experienced phonebank organizers will guide you through the process and be there throughout to provide help and support on any voting questions you might encounter. There’s no convincing, just helping willing Dems get to the polls. You’ll get all the information you need about both Jenkins and the district’s House candidates.

Mondays @ 5 - 7 pm EDT

Can’t make it on Mondays? Join Indivisible Northamptons Phone Bank for a Bluer VA on Thursdays, or the volunteer recruitment phone banks with Rural GroundGame on Fridays.

Thursdays @ 5 - 7 pm EDT

Double Your Impact

Recruit VA Volunteers

Local volunteers are a key to building up the Democratic party. Make calls to VA Dems who want to make sure VA stays blue. Empower them by helping them find ways to get involved.

Encouraging activism is a high-impact method to help protect and add to state-level gains in 2023, as well as to strengthen the party ahead of the 2024 US Presidential and Senate elections.

Fridays @ 4 - 6 pm EDT

Get Your Steps In ... In Virginia

Canvass in Virginia

Last week three Swing Blue Alliance volunteers spent Columbus Day weekend in Suffolk, VA, knocking on doors.

You, too, can make the greatest impact on the elections by canvassing in Suffolk the weekend before the election. It’s a fun and easy task, meeting with Dems to help them make sure to vote.

"We'll continue in a neighborhood where current House Member Clint Jenkins is running for the State Senate. We’ll also support candidates in his district who are running for the House, including his wife Karen Jenkins, Nadarius Clark, and Mary Person. Almost everyone we meet knows and strongly supports them, so no persuasion needed," explains Berl Hartman, who is organizing the events.

Make it a party by joining the other 15 Swing Blue volunteers who have already signed up. We will be driving down, or you can fly into Norfolk, VA. Local Dems are housing some of our volunteers and others are staying at reasonable Airbnbs.

This is a well-organized canvass in walkable territories. Come on down and bring your DC/VA area friends! Questions? Email berl.hartman@gmail.com

Achieving Honesty n the Media

Do you know about these three projects that address how we can fight the democracy-destroying disinformation that is drowning out fact-based news?

Join us at this workshop and you’ll learn about:

  • Sustainable local news structures in rural areas from Fraser Nelson, Director of Partnerships for the National Trust for Local News
  • The start-up Beacon Media from North Carolina State Senator Graig Meyer
  • A Pennsylvania newsroom that uses "trusted messengers" to get facts to the community from Kate Bassett, Political Director at Courier News

Wed, Oct 25 @ 12 - 1:15 pm EDT

Hosted by 31st Street Swing Left, Swing Blue Alliance, and other organizations
