So Much at Stake in Arizona

Don't let democracy go dark

Thanks to IntoAction for this Gif!

Women's bodily autonomy is on the ballot in Arizona, as the AZ Supreme Court this week ruled that all abortions can be banned in the state, based on a law from 1864.

Perennially purple Maricopa County (Phoenix area) represents 60% of Arizona’s electorate.  For over a decade, Maricopa has been the largest-gaining county in the nation, adding 56,831 residents in 2022.  Swing Blue Alliance’s new opportunity map shows that as of 2020 the unregistered voting age population was nearly 800,000 in Maricopa County. We’ve analyzed data on all precincts in Maricopa County and identified the top precincts to register voters, where we will focus our volunteer energy.

We're helping the Maricopa County Dems double their voter registration budget! These funds will help the Voter Registration Committee register voters and collect signatures to put an abortion initiative on the ballot in November.

¿Hablas español? Te necesitamos.

Every year, about 1.4 million Hispanics in the U.S. become eligible to vote. Arizona is 32% Hispanic, and North Carolina has a sizable Hispanic population.

If you speak Spanish, you can help us reach Spanish speakers with voter registration information. If your Spanish is a bit rusty, check out these tools for "electoral Spanish." Please let Swing Blue know if you can help register Spanish speakers to vote.

Cap, Gown and Ballot in New York

Swing Blue Alliance is partnering with The Civics Center in their "Cap, Gown and Ballot" initiative, to register high school seniors in New York State. The Civics Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that provides free training and resources to help make voter registration part of every high school in America. Swing Blue will be focusing on areas that are easiest for our volunteers to get to: Long Island, eastern NY (bordering MA and CT) and Syracuse/Utica area.

Do you know a student or anyone associated with high schools in these areas? Does someone at your book club, gym, or house of worship know someone? The Civics Center is giving free online workshops for anyone who wants to register high school seniors, and you can email interested friends or family with the their easy-to-use email template. Tell them about the Cap and Gown Ballot Toolkit, which they can use to mount a nonpartisan voter registration drive at their school.

Or join a group of Swing Blue volunteers to go to NY and register voters in person.

Support The Civics Center

The Civics Center

With voter registration deadlines just months away, only 30% of U.S. 18 year olds are registered to vote. Join us on April 18 to hear Laura Brill, Founder and CEO of The Civics Center, in conversation with special guest and 30-year veteran of U.S. politics Simon Rosenberg.

This special event on Zoom will raise funds to expand registration of young voters into Ohio, Michigan, and other key areas where the youth vote will have the greatest impact. If you can't attend, you can still donate by setting the # of tickets to 0.

Fight Gerrymandering in Ohio

Last summer, we helped Ohio activists defeat Republican efforts to undermine ballot initiatives. Now, we're calling Ohio voters to let them know about the petition drive to get an anti-gerrymandering measure on the ballot. You'll be calling dedicated Democrats to tell them how to sign the petition to ensure fair districts. Voters should choose their elected officials, elected officials shouldn’t choose their voters!

North Carolina

Democrats are All In for NC. Vice President Harris visited Mecklenburg County on April 4 to officially open their campaign office.

Anderson Clayton, the new head of the North Carolina Democrats, visited Boston on April 8 for a fundraiser. She made clear that with our help NC is poised to break Republicans' stranglehold on the state legislature, and even to deliver its 16 electoral votes to Joe Biden, who lost in 2020 by only 1.4%.

But NC Democrats need more local volunteers. Please join us to invite friendly NC Democrats to social events in the Charlotte area, where they can meet and get fired up to register voters and get out the vote.
