Jacob Himelfarb, a sophomore at Concord Academy, is focusing on humanities, loves his class on Latin-American colonialism, and plans to study global capitalism and politics of math before he graduates. He wants to get into politics and looked for a summer internship that would foster this goal.

“Swing Blue Alliance was suggested to me by many people,” he explains. “However, the ultimate reason the group stood out to me is they are making a real-world impact. Many organizations let you volunteer to make a small difference, but SBA is doing it on a larger scale. In Massachusetts, SBA is the largest grassroots organization, so I’m thrilled to be able to help out in any way I can.”

“I’m not sure what SBA will ask me to do,” he says.  “At first, I need to get my hands dirty to see what the organization really does. This means going door to door and participating in phone banks. Later, I hope to do more organizational work like setting up phone banks and maybe helping with the social media/marketing aspect.”

Jacob has concrete goals for his internship. “I’ve always been a political person that cares about our nation, and I think SBA will do a lot for me. I look forward to learning more about our system, how people get elected, where the power in our country is, and how to shift it. SBA is allowing me to volunteer in a meaningful/impactful way, where I am still talking to real people but also making a difference that can actually better our country.”
