Join Upper West Side Action Group volunteers to knock doors for a competitive race using deep canvassing approach. We’ll have a deep canvassing training in advance of our trip. You can come for the whole weekend or just for Sat. We have reserved rooms in a nice and inexpensive hotel.
We’re focusing on PA07 for Susan Wild in the House because it also supports Sen. Bob Casey for reelection in the Senate and President Joe Biden since Pennsylvania is an important swing state in the presidential Election. We’ll also have “vote tripling” postcards to invite Dems to identify 3 friends they promise to remind to vote and we’ll mail these back to them close to Nov. 5. Lastly, we’ll have voter registration forms just in case.
We carpool to the Lehigh Valley and if we’re short of cars we do rent. If you have a car, that would be wonderful, but if you don’t you can be a passenger.
Canvassing has been shown time and again to be the most effective way to engage with voters. The campaigns are not yet up and running, but now is still a critical time to talk to voters. Canvassing early shows the community that we’re not waiting until right before the election to reach out.
You’ll be talking to likely Democrats in a targeted area of a key swing state or district where we’ll need every last vote. We’re telling them about the stakes in the upcoming election, and asking them if they’ll commit to remind three friends to vote. If they agree, you will have them fill out a postcard which you will then store and mail back shortly before Election Day. This approach has been shown to significantly increase a voter’s likelihood of voting and also to increase the likelihood of people in their house or neighborhood voting.
Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before–we’ll cover everything you need to know. And once you get going, you’ll find that talking to voters is fun and rewarding.
