Working Class America

Since the 1970s, the Democratic coalition has continued to lose support among working class Americans who are non-college educated, white or Latinx, and who live in small towns or rural areas. Andrew Levison (2022) proposes two stratagems to reverse, or at least mitigate, this trend: (1) Galvanize grassroots organizations and Democratic Party offices to advance working class issues, and use these groups to challenge Republican candidates. (2) Introduce and support “grassroots insurgent candidates” in Republican primaries to undermine their campaigns. (Levison 2022) (Friedland, L., Newby, R.)
