With the fourth of July around the corner, we have just over four months until Election Day and the momentum for the upcoming election season continues to build. We have a series of exciting events and urgent volunteer opportunities that need your support. Here’s what’s happening:
Annual Cambridge Picnic – Sunday, July 14 | 4 – 6pm ET
Join us for a delightful afternoon at the Annual Cambridge Picnic at 1991 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA. Swing Blue Alliance, Activist Afternoons, and other grassroots groups from Greater Boston are coming together for a fun, family-friendly event. Enjoy live folk music, engaging activities for all ages, and the chance to connect with like-minded individuals. Don’t miss out—register now.
Urgent Volunteer Placements
As we gear up for a summer of campaign work and prepare for the fall, we urgently need to fill several critical internal positions. Your help can make a significant difference. Here are the roles we’re looking to fill:
- Spreadsheet Analysts – Assist with reports, logistics, and planning.
- Spanish-Speaking Volunteers – Comfortable with phone banking? We need you to make friendly calls to Arizona Democrats in Maricopa County who haven’t signed up for absentee ballots.
- Newsletter Writers and Data Analysts – Help us with our bi-monthly newsletter. If you have experience writing newsletters and analyzing results, we need you.
- Travel Coordinators – Organize and coordinate trips for our Philadelphia deep canvassing campaign in Pennsylvania, complete with group Airbnb accommodations provided by Swing Blue Alliance.
Email info@swingbluealliance.org to offer to support one of these roles.
Volunteer Orientations
New to volunteering? Join one of our upcoming volunteer orientations available in July and August. It’s a great way to get started and understand how you can contribute to our efforts.
New Phone Bank for NY
Pat Ryan’s seat in NY’s Hudson Valley is crucial. He won by a narrow margin in 2022, and this phone bank aims to re-engage Democrats who have supported us in the past. By recruiting volunteers, we can significantly impact the campaign early on. We’ll also invite those needing more encouragement to social events like campaign office openings.
Organize for Working America
Working America, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO with 4.1 million members, is a crucial part of our strategy. We’re mailing non-partisan letters with personal healthcare stories to up to 700,000 members in Pennsylvania. This persuasion campaign has proven effective in randomized trials. So far, we’ve sent over 80,000 letters, but we need more organizers to help purchase and mail 300 letters or more per package.
Canvassing and Voter Registration Opportunities
Engaging with voters directly is one of the most impactful ways to ensure Democratic success in the upcoming elections. Here are some exciting canvassing and voter registration opportunities where your efforts can make a real difference:
- Register Voters and Stay at the Philly House – Philadelphia is the densest and most populous source of Democratic votes in Pennsylvania. Throughout the summer, our focus will be on voter registration to mobilize more Democratic voters for the fall. Many in our target demographic do not appear on any lists of unregistered voters, so door knocking in Democratic neighborhoods and hotspot voter registration are critical techniques. We’ve rented a house for volunteers! Stay for a week, learn the neighborhoods, and hone your skills. The cost is just $30 per night, with training provided both before your arrival and while you’re there. The house manager will assist you with everything.
- Register College Campus Voters in PA – In the third week of August, students will return to college campuses in the Philly metro area. We are partnering with a well-recognized group on PA campuses to register 10-12,000 students during Welcome Weeks. Your help is crucial to achieving this goal. Make sure you also register for the training for this event.
- Knock to Flip NY-19 Blue – Join us in the Hudson Valley to canvass for Josh Riley and flip a congressional seat, which could potentially help us re-take the US House. This is a key opportunity to engage with voters and make a significant impact.
- Flip North Carolina Blue – Canvass for the Biden campaign in North Carolina, where Biden lost by only 75,000 votes in 2020. All In for North Carolina is helping out-of-state voters connect with canvassing opportunities in Mecklenburg County, home of Charlotte. Your participation could be the difference in flipping this crucial state.
- Canvassing in Arizona – Arizona’s crucial races could impact the Presidential race and control of both the U.S. House and Senate. Join us in canvassing this fall to engage with voters and secure Democratic victories in this pivotal state.
- Canvassing 101 – If you’re new to canvassing, register for our Canvassing 101 sessions. These sessions will provide you with the necessary skills and confidence to effectively engage with voters.
Fundraise for Democracy with The States Project
If you can’t travel, consider fundraising. We’re supporting Arizona and North Carolina and now adding New Hampshire to our Swing Blue Alliance Giving Circle for The States Project. Here’s why:
- Flip the House: Gaining just 4 seats will shift power.
- Tie the Senate: Gaining 2 seats will break right-wing control.
The States Project’s Giving Circles Team has organized a $500K matching gift opportunity! Your fundraising efforts can have a significant impact on these crucial races.
Conclusion
Every effort counts as we approach the 2024 elections. Whether it’s attending our picnic, volunteering for critical roles, or joining our campaigns, your participation is invaluable. Let’s continue to work together to create a better future.
Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to get involved. Thank you for your dedication and support!
