FREEDOM TO VOTE RALLIES

What Are You Doing This Saturday?

Rally for Freedom to Vote
This Saturday at 2:00 pm, join fellow activists in Boston for the Freedom to Vote Rally! You’ll be participating in of one of the thousands of events across the country demonstrating massive support of the For the People Act (S1).

The Boston rally will coincide with the arrival in Washington, D.C., of the Freedom Ride bus tour. Organized by Black Voters Matter, this bus tour commemorates the 60th anniversary of the original Freedom Ride movement as a means to unite voters in the fight to protect voting rights.

The 2022 strategy of the Trump wing of the GOP is clear: to suppress voters (especially Black and Brown voters), rig legislative districts, and refuse to accept the outcome of any elections they lose. If we don’t pass the For the People Act now, there won’t be enough Democratic voters to elect Democrat candidates.
Indivisible Mass Coalition, Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston, NAACP-Boston, Common Cause MA, Progressive Mass, Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action, Act on Mass, Free Speech for People, Mass Peace Action, Massachusetts TPS Committee, Indivisible Acton Area, and other grassroots organizations are encouraging you to come and lend your voices to support voting rights.

FOR THE PEOPLE

Partnering with Common Cause

Dial for Democracy
Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston is proud to partner with Common Cause on the fight to pass the For the People Act (S1). Together, we are hosting Dial New England for Democracy, a nonpartisan phone bank campaign. We’re calling voters in the Northeast, urging them to ask their senators to publicly call for eliminating the filibuster. If moderate senators support ending the filibuster, it will encourage other senators to follow their good example.

Dial New England for Democracy is the most dynamic volunteer-powered campaign Common Cause has led in its entire 50-year history. The organization stands up for the belief that the U.S. government should serve all the people, not just the wealthy or partisan special interests.
Make Calls for For the People!

"Exponential-ize" Your Impact

Host a Postcard Event
If you want to increase the power of your efforts for For the People (S1) , consider hosting a postcard distribution event. You'll help generate thousands of calls to promote the For the People Act.

Let's urge supportive senators to put S1 on the front burner and move their colleagues to join in pushing for its passage! Senators must feel pressure to end the filibuster for this legislation to pass.

It's easy to recruit volunteers because your event will appear in the online calendar. For the actual event, you order preprinted postcards in bundles of 50; the postcards come with pre-printed name/address labels.

You pick a date, and your volunteers pick up their cards from your porch or wherever you designate. (You can even deliver the cards or hold an in-person party if you want!) Volunteers write a short handwritten message, stick on the stamps and labels, and put the postcards in the mail.

It's that simple to change the course of the U.S. Congress.

As one of the largest all-volunteer groups in New England, Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston believes the success of our efforts depends on our ability to build a year-round community of people, acting together to save our democracy. We are joining forces with Indivisible and the Indivisible Mass Coalition to strengthen our efforts. This alliance will enhance our ability to collaborate with grassroots groups across Massachusetts and the country.

Going forward, Swing Left and Indivisible. Our mission remains the same: Give activists opportunities to help elect and support leaders who take effective action to promote democratic ideals.

GERRYMANDERING

Voices from Wisconsin

Can You Hear Us Now?
Want to know how gerrymandering enabled Republicans to control Wisconsin? Through the stories of four determined women, the film Can You Hear Us Now? unravels years of one-party control.

You can watch the film anytime on your own between June 27 - 30. Then, on June 30 @ 6:00 pm, join the panel discussion and learn how activists are fighting back.

Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston is proud to co-sponsor this free event with Lean Left Vermont. We strongly encourage you to donate to Law Forward and/or Citizen Action of Wisconsin, who are leading the fight for fair maps in Wisconsin.
