JUNE 26 RALLYMake Freedom to Vote Echo! |
|
Grassroots activists across Massachusetts are gathering on June 26 at two Freedom to Vote Rallies, one on Boston Common and the other in Martha's Vineyard. Stand with us to demand that the U.S. Senate pass historic voting reform legislation. Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston is proud to be a co-organizer of this rally, along with Indivisible Massachusetts Coalition and dozens of voting rights groups in Massachusetts. The rally is the first major effort of the alliance SBA/SLGB has formed with Indivisible national, similar to our alliance with Swing Left’s national organization. Why rally? Republicans are on track for a majority in Congress next year. There are 389 voter suppression bills in 48 states, and Republicans are gerrymandering new House districts as you read. We must -- and can -- stop them! How does this make a difference? At rallies across the country, our voices will drown out the country's focus on the big lie. We hope to dominate the airwaves and capture the attention of media and voters. Join and add pressure to pass the For The People Act so every citizen has freedom to vote!

June 26 is not an arbitrary date. We chose June 26 to support and amplify the Black Voters Matter
Freedom Ride for Voting Rights Bus Tour.
The BVM rally ends up in DC on June 26, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Freedom Rides movement.
When you join IMC and SBA/SLGB's rallies in Boston and Springfield, you'll be marching in solidarity with volunteers from BVM and many other groups across the country. In addition, many of the 200 organizations allied with the Declaration for Democracy Coalition are participating, demanding that senators across the country take action.

JUNE 26 RALLYProven: Your Presence Will Have an Impact |

Between 1900-2006, every nonviolent civil resistance campaign succeeded if it had an active participation of 3.5% of the population. Erica Chenowith, a professor of public policy at Harvard, says that we can win … if we can engage enough people in our movement.

In prep for the rally, you can encourage voters across the country to make their voices heard.
The entire body of Democratic senators needs to hear that Americans support S1, so they will shout it from the treetops. Help constituents across the country push their senators to fight for For the People . Call voters who care about democracy and put them in touch with their senators. The phone bank script includes an S1 message that's easy for voters to repeat.

Indivisible Northampton is thrilled to host Boston-based political maven, Susan Labandibar, leader of Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston (a member of Indivisible), to our upcoming meeting on June 21st. Susan has helped shepherd SLGB into the powerhouse it is today: creating a state-wide community of progressives engaged in powerful and effective activism on the national stage. Learn about SLGB/SBA's current strategies (like calling, writing, texting), where these campaigns are targeted, and how effective they are (based on SBA/SLGB’s research), as Susan fills us in on where we are, where we’re going and how you can join in. And, you'll also hear about what Indivisible Northampton is up to, & how you can get more involved in protecting our democracy, fighting disinformation, and passing the For the People Act!
