Your Calls are Making a Difference in Ohio

With less than 2 weeks to go before the August 8 Ohio election on Issue 1, every voter contact counts. Our phone bankers are still encountering voters who aren't aware of the election. Last Monday, we spoke to nearly 75 "No on 1" voters who were made aware of the election by our phone call!

With your help, we can meet our goal of reaching 3,000 voters by election day on  8/8.  We're pleased to report that volunteers are finding these phone banks to be a very rewarding experience. One first time phone banker says, "Very good training and support. I felt very appreciated."

Polls indicate that a large percentage of voters are still undecided, and that this  election could well be decided by a few hundred votes. Please join us to tip the balance toward democracy in Ohio.

Mon, July 31 and Mon, Aug 7 @ 5:30 - 7:30 pm EDT

Thursdays @5:30 - 7:30 pm EDT

Multiple days and times until 8/8

Swing Blue Alliance Funds Ohio Ad

Swing Blue Alliance has raised $7,210 for the Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association to run the above newspaper ad, in counties where voters are known to rely on small local papers for news on local issues. ODCCA has contracted with 8 papers with a total circulation of almost 60,000, and are working on 4 other papers with a total circulation of 32,000. All the ads will run next week.

The concept behind the ad comes from Ohio Dems, who know that a play on the rivalry between Ohio State and the University of Michigan will be persuasive framing for Ohio voters. Thanks to all who donated, and special thanks to Swing Blue volunteer Jamie French for the eye-catching ad design.

The Eyes of the Country are on

Virginia 2023

Early voting begins on 9/22 for Virginia’s 2023  legislative elections. Simon Rosenberg of Hopium Chronicles called the Virginia Election “one of the top 3 elections in 2023” and said that  “we must win big” to provide momentum we need in 2024. Every legislative seat in both chambers in the state is up for grabs, with Republicans currently holding a 52-48 majority in the House of Delegates and Democrats holding a 21-19 majority in the state Senate.

Swing Blue's Berl Hartman and Susan Labandibar have just returned from the 2023 Virginia Women’s Summit, where they encountered a fantastic array of energized organizers and activists, and met many inspiring VA candidates, including House candidate Esther Nizer, for whom Swing Blue Alliance has a postcarding campaign in the works. They came home fired up to build a Virginia team of Swing Blue Alliance volunteers.

If you’re interested in participating in any way at all in Virginia, even if you’re not quite sure what you would like to do, please fill out the "Interest in Virginia Team" form.

NC Volunteers Building Community

Mecklenburg County NC, where Charlotte is located, has a high proportion of Democratic voters but a dismally low voter turnout. Mecklenburg's dynamic new Democratic Party chair has plans to radically boost turnout, and Swing Blue Alliance is pitching in to help.

We're making calls to 19,000 Mecklenburg residents who've said they want to volunteer.  These are some of the most fun calls you'll ever make: asking potential volunteers to attend community events where they'll meet other like-minded activists, to plan and socialize. By recruiting and training volunteers now, Mecklenburg Dems will be able to develop skilled campaigners for the three county-wide elections in 2023, and test new strategies before the critical 2024 elections.

Sundays @ 6 pm - 8 pm EDT

Amplify This: The Civics Center

Laura Brill, a former clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, is on a mission to stop youth voter suppression and increase turnout among young voters.

Brill started The Civics Center in 2018 with the goal of registering every high school student in America to vote. By building the "Ready to Vote Coalition," the Civics Center is empowering students everywhere.

Brill will be coming to Belmont for a fundraiser on August 14, at 7 pm. RSVP here. Meanwhile, check out this informative interview with Simon Rosenberg to find out how Brill is building on the legacy of RBG.
