Are you looking for a way to help support Western MA actions and organizing? There is increasing demand for marshals/ peacekeepers, who play an essential role in carrying off a successful action!
Marshals — also known as peacekeepers and “safetys” in some movements — are visible organizers on the day-of a public protest under the first amendment.
As marshals, we help keep our demonstrations organized according to a collectively considered plan, support protesters to protest nonviolently, and intervene/de-escalate as necessary with counter-demonstrators and police.
Marshals are protest facilitators, ensuring that our demonstrations remain on message and that we can all participate in the collective power of nonviolent resistance.
Longtime activist, trainer and Rise and Resist co-founder Alexis Danzig and local activist/ organizer and Founder/ Director of ROAR, Ali Wicks-Lim will be conducting the training. Voluntary donations will be accepted to offset the cost of gas as one of the trainers will be traveling from out of state.
This will be an opportunity to gain the skills and confidence to volunteer as a marshal/ peacekeeper and support local organizers in sustainable organizing practices. Our intention is to create a pool of local people who are empowered to respond to the need for this kind of support at local actions.
Note: If there is more interest than we can accommodate at this training we will prioritize those who are able to commit to volunteering at a No Kings event on the 18th and schedule another training at a later date.
