ANDOVER, MA – The Hard Work of Hope: Lessons from a Lifetime of Organizing

September 7 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

Join us to hear from Michael Ansara, author of The Hard Work of Hope, in conversation with Archon Fung, director of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Michael has been on the front lines of activism for a lifetime

even before he became a leader of the SDS on the Harvard campus in 1969. In his book The Hard Work of Hope, he traces an arc of discovery from the hope and moral clarity of the Civil Rights Movement to the ten-year struggle to end the war in Vietnam – and how he learned to become a more effective organizer through building the Massachusetts Fair Share organization.

…and is eager to share his experience and perspective with us

in hopes that we can build on his lessons learned so that we can be as effective as possible now in defending our democracy when the situation is ever more urgent.

Please bring your questions!

We invite you to post a question in the right-hand side bar on this page when you register for the event. We welcome you to join us for a …

“… masterclass in organizing!”

as one attendee of Michael’s conversation with Jamie Raskin at Busboys and Poets in DC, July 22 2025, described it.

Books will be available for purchase and signed by the author — all proceeds go to Greater Andover Indivisible.
