HAPPENING NOW

The March on DC, Aug 28

March on DC
Diane Biglow, Paul Rastellini, and Catherine Hillery head for DC armed with banners
August 28 marks the 58th anniversary of the March on Washington. Groups have gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to demonstrate against voter suppression and other injustices.

At least ten members of Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston are already in DC to demand support for voting protection. If you want to support their efforts, consider donating to cover some of their expenses.

JOIN THE FUN

Discover, Celebrate, Play, Come Together: Introducing Our New Name

Unveiling Our New Name
Join the SBA/SLGB community for a delightful afternoon: Play lawn games with kids and families, try word search challenges, sample homemade goodies, and reconnect with fellow activists.

Then, be one of the first to see our new logo, hear about upcoming SBA/SLGBprograms, and learn about our strategies for NH and beyond.

The fun begins on Saturday, September 11 @ 3:30 at Beaver Brook Park Extension in Waltham (enter across from 25 Wilson Road). At 5:00, stroll over to the outdoor taproom at the Mighty Squirrel for an outdoor after-party.

Why all the fuss?

In 2020, volunteers working with Swing Left Greater Boston took 4.7 million actions. In 2021, we’ll redouble our efforts to promote Democratic candidates and causes, now under a new name and a new affiliation with Indivisible.

This transformation will help activists and activist groups recognize the 'new us' as an independent grassroots organization. At the same time, we will continue providing ways for organizers and volunteers to take effective action to elect Democrats in swing states.

COLLEGE OPPORTUNITIES

Learn, Prepare for Jobs, and Do Good

College Internships
Are you -- or do you know -- a college student who wants to get involved in the fight for democratic goals? SBA/SLGB is looking for students who want to apply their skills in posting social media, communications, writing, data management, and research. This is a great way to prepare for a job search. There may even be opportunities for course credit or financial support.

LOCAL ISSUES MATTER

It Starts in Cities and States

CA Gov Newsom and Manchester NH Mayor Craig
Democracy in the White House and Congress starts with on-the-ground support at the local level. For example ...

In New Hampshire
There's a “jungle” primary for mayor in Manchester on September 21 and then the city election on November 2. Having a great Democratic mayor in Manchester is key to protecting Senator Maggie Hassan (who may face the very popular Governor Sununu) and Congressman Chris Pappas (whose seat will be redistricted in favor of the GOP).

Support the Democratic movement all the way up the ballot, starting with Mayor Joyce Craig, who is working to expand voter registration in a state that makes registering difficult.

In California
Trump Republicans are trying a power grab in California by attempting to recall Governor Gavin Newsom. The GOP wants the Governor to stop protecting the coast, fighting climate change, rebuilding after the pandemic, and supporting other Democrats.

Here on the East Coast, there is a phonebank/social, with Deputy Executive Director of the DNC Roger Lau, as a special guest. We'll make calls from 9:00 - 10:30 pm and then break for cocktails (or mocktails)!

Call to Stop the Recall in California!

Thursday September 2 @ 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm ET
(6:00 pm -7:30 pm PT in California) Sponsored by the MassDems, The Organizing Hub, and TLL.
