Roundup: Catch Up on North Carolina

If you read last week’s SBA newsletter, you know the critical role North Carolina will play in the 2022 midterms and 2024 Presidential election. Now, Nan Nixon from County-to-County will show you how volunteer power, strategically deployed, can elect great candidates in pink districts across the North Carolina. You'll also hear from Swing Blue volunteers who are jumping back into the fray. Get updates on SBA programs targeting New Hampshire, volunteer recruitment in swing states, and experiments on the science of handwritten postcards and letters.

Sun, Apr 24 @ 5 pm ET

Moving from Cold Calls to Effective Communications

All of us who’ve called into swing states know how hard it is to influence people on the other end of the line. The Communication Skills for Volunteer Recruiting program changes all that.

The best way to reach people is to develop rapport by engaging in personal conversation. No more Yes/No questions. No more trying to convince. Just one-to-one relationship building.

The Communication Skills for Volunteer Recruiting class is a great way to learn and hone these skills. You’ll get tips, a workbook, and ample time to practice.

Thu, Apr 28 and May 26 @ 5 pm ET

Mon, May 9 @ 7 pm ET

This effective approach is highly recommended for all Volunteers T*B*D events, starting right now with calls into North Carolina, as the next article describes.

Build a Grassroots Infrastructure in NC

A strong grassroots infrastructure in North Carolina is key to stemming the tide of Republican intransigence in this purple state. Volunteers T*B*D is recruiting experienced NC volunteers, letting them know they have the power to help (1) maintain or increase the number of Dems in Congress, (2) deny the Republicans a veto-proof supermajority at the state level, and (3) protect Democratic control of the state Supreme Court.

As part of the Volunteers T*B*D Calling Corps, you yourself have power -- power  to re-energize and build a stronger Democratic presence in NC.

Mondays @ 4 - 6 pm ET

Become a more effective recruiter at Communication Skills for Volunteer Recruiting, described in the previous article.

Canvass in Manchester: Let's Win Up and Down Ballot

Looking for a way to do your part to save Democracy? Then put on your walking shoes and join us to canvass in Manchester, NH!

As we talk to voters, we’ll be identifying support for candidates. Using deep canvassing techniques (similar to those described in the article above on Communication Skills for Volunteer Recruiting), we can move the needle towards a Democrat legislature.

Join the SBA New Hampshire team and OrganizeNH to ensure that Senator Maggie Hassan, Congressman Chris Pappas, and down-ballot candidates win!

Saturdays through May @ 10 am - 1 pm ET

EVP Postcard Project Kickoff!

We were going to invite you to participate in a Swing Blue Alliance Labs letter-writing experiment this weekend but as of yesterday, it is sold out!

On May 2, we will start a new postcard project with the Environmental Voter Project. We will be writing to voters who place a high priority on the environment thanking them for voting in 2020 and asking them to vote in the CO Primary. Specifically we will be writing to voters in the NEW CO CD-08.

Shannon Seigal, EVP's Organizing Director, will join us on Thursday, April 28, from 7-8pm, to provide background on the project and especially the research EVP will do to determine if the postcards did in fact increase turnout among these voters. This information will help inform their further efforts to turnout environmentalists and make them always voters.

April 28, 7-8pm

Host Postcarding to Turn Colorado Blue

Colorado has a new Congressional District -- CD-08 -- and it has been rated a toss up. The Environmental Voter Project (EVP) is doing its part to make sure that it starts out as a blue district! Swing Blue Alliance is working with EVP to encourage 15,000 environmentalists to vote in the June 28 primary. People who participate in primaries are very likely to vote in subsequent elections.

Click the button to get everything you need for hosting. Postcards are easy for volunteers to process: they only require a short, handwritten message and placement of an address label and stamp on the card.  All postcards must be mailed on June 6.
