All Volunteer Roundup: Especially for You

SBA at the Boston Abortion Rights Rally

Swing Blue Alliance enrolled 28 new members at the Boston Abortion Rights Rally on October 2

Have you ever volunteered with Swing Blue Alliance? Are you thinking of getting involved in Democratic campaigns and causes? This meeting is especially for you.

On October 17, join our first All Volunteer Roundup and hear the latest on Swing Blue Alliance programs, as well as insights from our partners on the ground.

We'll also talk about the battle to keep Virginia blue. Special guest Dr. Luisa Boyarski, professor at Georgetown University and leader of the Virginia Grassroots Coalition, will give us her take on Virginia’s political landscape in 2021 and beyond.

Especially for you: At the end of the program, stay for an open discussion and connect with other people just like you.

Sun, Oct 17 @ 5-6 pm ET

DC Freedom to Vote Rally and MORE!

Here’s an exciting opportunity to voice your support for voting rights in person. Travel together (via carpool, caravan, or bus) with other volunteers to the Freedom to Vote Rally in Washington, DC, on October 23.

Your strong voice at this critical moment is essential. The Freedom to Vote Act will stop threats to our freedom to vote and help us realize the promise of democracy for all.

After the rally, stay overnight to canvass in Fredericksburg, VA. The goal of the day is to help Democrats maintain their trifecta in Virginia. See the next article.

Briefing Session and Virtual Brunch

Where Goes Virginia?

In the last election, Dems won the Governorship, House of Delegates, and state Senate, a rare three-pronged victory. The result? In the last four years, Virginia has addressed Medicaid, the minimum wage, funding for childcare, voting rights, abortion rights, and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.

The November 2 elections are the Dem's chance to maintain control and build upon their successes. Moreover, Virginia is a bellwether for Democratic control of the US Congress in 2022.

After the DC rally, come with us as we knock on doors in Fredericksburg, VA.  We're canvassing for Governor Terry McAuliffe and Rev. Joshua Cole, a vulnerable Democratic incumbent in the Virginia House of Delegates.

The Virginia Republican Party is targeting black candidates, including Del. Cole, with identical racist mailings. Cole has vowed to fight back by doubling down on canvassing.  We're happy to help.

Double Your Money!!

Through our new partnership with Indivisible, Swing Blue Alliance (SBA) can now accept contributions to support our operations. In a special kickoff program, Indivisible will match all donations up to $500 though October 31.

Here’s where your gift will go:

  • While building the SBA website is an act of love for volunteers, we have to pay fees for website tools, hosting, and a “plug-in” to run the calendar.
  • Volunteers collect info, write, edit, and layout this newsletter, but SBA pays Action Network to host, distribute, and track the effectiveness of each issue.
  • Given enough donations, SBA may be able to underwrite the costs of postcards and postage, as well as other programs.

Donate to Swing Blue Alliance through the Indivisible Project!

Only through October 31, 2021

NH: The Power of Local Elections

Did you know that research shows that the more often people vote, the more likely they will be to vote in the future?  Our volunteering in New Hampshire is helping people make voting a habit. We're registering both college students and new residents, all with the goal of increasing the Democratic base.

Join us to help re-elect Manchester’s incumbent Democratic mayor, Joyce Craig. You'll be setting  the stage for Democratic wins across New Hampshire in 2022.

Paula Joseph will get back to you personally!

Learning Corner

Breaking Through the Political Noise

The road to keep the House and Senate in 2022 won't be straightforward. In fact, it already looks challenging. It's going to take all of our creativity to maintain Democratic control of Congress and expand our majorities.

Here's a great chance to learn what motivates folks who are reluctant to vote. You'll also get a sense of how to encourage swing voters to think about adopting progressive policies.

The guest speaker is communications researcher and campaign consultant Anat Shenker-Osorio. She'll share her insights across the spectrum of the progressive agenda, updated from her 2020 experiences.

In particular, Ms. Shenker-Osorio will cover high-level principles of persuasion and mobilization. She'll also give you concrete examples of empirically backed messages, ads, and memes for issues and electoral wins.
