Working in conjunction with Field Team 6\, we will text unregistered likely Democrats in key swing states before 2024’s elections!
\nField Team 6 calls this BYOP or Bring Your Own Phone\, although it actually uses your own computer with an anonymized Google Voice number or Apple’s iMessage app. And it's a great way to register new Democrats!
\nThere are a few things you'll need to set up on your computer but they aren't difficult. We strongly suggest that you attend the FT6 BYOP Boot Camp session which is given every Thursday from 6-7:30 PM EDT. You can sign up HERE. If you're tech savvy and want to do the set up on your own\, \nthis User Guide provides all the information.
\nThe prerequisites you will need to attend the class are explained in the confirmation email that you will receive. None of them are difficult and we can help if you need it.
\nOnce trained\, you'll be able to send texts any time between 9 am – 9 pm in the Time Zone you're texting. We will start in Pennsylvania and potentially move onto other swing states in the future.
\nSince this is the first time we are giving these events\, we are limiting the enrollment to 20 people until we are sure we have worked out all the bugs. So if you sign up\, please do your best to be there or let us know if something comes up and you can't make it. If everything goes well\, then we will open this up and the more the merrier.
\nWe use Field Team 6 Slack to communicate with our BYOP-ers. If you already have a login to the Field Team 6 Slack channel\, great! If not\, we'll give you the sign-up link during the BYOP Boot Camp. (once signed up\, look for the #byop-bring_your_own_phone channel.)

But until they are registered\, young people can’t turn out and use their voices at the ballot box. Help strengthen our democracy by ensuring Pennsylvania’s youngest voters have their say in 2024 and beyond.
\nDespite the trope about youth apathy\, the fact is that barriers to registration are the #1 obstacle to youth voter turnout. Based on US Census data\, in every presidential election going back to 2004\, some 75% of young people who are registered to vote do turn out to vote. But approximately 4 million Americans turn 18 each year\, and as of the 2022 midterms\, only about 30% of them were registered to vote. The rate is likely lower today.
\nWe will be mailing to adults with 16- 18-year-olds in their households\, and asking them to help get the eligible teens registered to vote.
\nThis project is partnering with The Civics Center: a trusted national leader in registering young voters.
\nVoter Engagement Network materials are meant to be easy to process: they only require a short\, handwritten message in a letter\, inserting a scorecard\, and stamping and addressing an envelope. A packet of 25 letters costs $23.50 (Venmo or check due by pickup time)\, including tax and postage.

A packet of 25 letters costs $23.50\, including tax and postage.
\nEach packet contains 25 letters\, envelopes and stamps. Just add a short handwritten message\, add the address and the stamp\, and mail by March 31st. When signing up\, please consider requesting two or more packets (2 packets are 50 letters\, 3 packets are 75 letters).
\nResearch has strongly suggested that mail open rate is positively affected by hand-written addresses\, which we will do for this campaign.
\nPlease share this invitation with other local friends and neighbors.
