We strive to build community, educate voters, and use our Sharpies to write to save democracy together. Join us on Tuesday, December 5, 9:30am to 12pm ET, to write postcards, talk about the races, and hear from candidates and political leaders.
Nia Alvarez-Mapp, Organizing Director of New Yorkers for Equal Rights, will join us at 10:00 am ET. New Yorkers for Equal Rights is a coalition of civil rights and reproductive rights organizations advocating for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. The New York State Equal Rights Amendment is an amendment to New York’s State Constitution that adds explicit protections for people who experience discrimination.Adding to existing enumerated protections against discrimination based on race and religion, this amendment would explicitly prohibit discrimination based on a person’s ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex—including their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, reproductive healthcare and autonomy. This Amendment ensures that New York’s founding document and our strongest legal protections extend to all New Yorkers the right to be free from discrimination, particularly those who have faced severe and pervasive injustice.
Write postcards with us or just join the conversation. If you are interested in getting involved with GOTV postcard writing, let us know and we’ll help you get started!
If you are with the media and want to attend, you must notify us at markersfordemocracy@gmail.com at least two hours before the start of the event. All discussions are off the record.
This event is co-hosted by Markers For Democracy, Downtown Nasty Women Social Group, and Team Min.
